What can't go in a skip bin?
Shelby Skips bins can't take asbestos, food, gas bottles, tyres, paint, oil, chemicals, batteries, medical waste, or anything flammable or hazardous. No liquid of any kind can go in either. The rule is the same for every size and every waste type. A mattress can go in general waste or mixed and heavy, at $70 each, if you book it before delivery. Food found in a bin costs $200 to clean out.

Why can't an empty gas bottle go in?
Brisbane City Council says gas bottles are a safety risk to its workers even when they're empty. Our terms ban cylinders of any kind, so a fire extinguisher stays out too.
Some gas refill services take old bottles back.
Why are batteries banned?
A battery can start a fire in the truck. Sunshine Coast Council says that goes for batteries still inside a device. Our terms ban every type of battery, car batteries included.

What about paint, oil and chemicals?
Paint, oil, fuel, solvents, and pool and garden chemicals can't go in. Brisbane City Council says hazardous waste thrown out the wrong way can start fires in bins and collection trucks.
Paintback takes up to 100 litres of paint a visit, free, in tins of up to 20 litres. Oil and household chemicals go to a council drop-off.
Where do old tyres go?
Some tyre shops will take your old tyres when you buy new ones. City of Moreton Bay tips take four tyres a financial year free, each under 1.2m across.
Why is food a problem?
Food means extra handling and a pressure clean of the bin, and that's what the food fee pays for.
Before a clean-out, empty the fridge and pantry into your own wheelie bin or compost.
Can needles or medical waste go in?
Needles and other sharps, and anything that's a biohazard, can't go in.
City of Moreton Bay gives out free sharps containers at its major waste facilities. Full ones go in the yellow medical waste bins there. Your pharmacy can tell you the options near you.
What if I find asbestos?
If you think you've found asbestos, leave it alone and ring your council or a licensed asbestos removalist.
Which things only go in some bins?
A mattress that wasn't booked can mean extra charges, or we may not take the bin. In an 8m mixed and heavy, soil, concrete and besser blocks are out. What happens if banned waste is in the bin?
We may not collect the bin until the banned waste is out. You can also face extra charges or fines. Banned waste stays your responsibility, even after we've taken the bin away.
Can someone else put rubbish in my bin?
Only you, and people you've said yes to, should put waste in it. Rubbish dumped by anyone else can bring extra charges, or we may not collect the bin. Our terms ask you to keep the bin secure.
Where can I take banned waste?
In Moreton Bay, the Bunya, Caboolture, Dakabin, Redcliffe and Woodford tips take gas bottles, paint, oil, chemicals and batteries. Household amounts only.
In Brisbane, the four resource recovery centres take batteries, empty gas bottles, motor oil, paint and solvents free, any day. Gas bottles have limits there. Cleaning and pool chemicals wait for Brisbane's free hazardous waste drop-off days.
