How skip bin hire works

General waste costs $330 in a 2m, $370 in a 3m, $470 in a 4m, $670 in a 6m and $860 in an 8m. Green waste is $300, $350, $400, $555 and $705 in the same sizes, and mixed and heavy $460 to $1,210.

Book the type that matches what's going in, so you only pay mixed and heavy prices when you need to.

• General waste takes household rubbish, furniture, packaging and garden waste, but no concrete or soil.
• Green waste is grass, leaves, branches, weeds, palm fronds, logs and stumps. No bags or timber, and turf goes in clean fill.
• Clean fill is soil and dirt with no rubbish, debris or plants, though some roots and turf are fine.
• Concrete and brick is concrete, bricks and roof tiles. Ceramic tiles cost $100 extra per skip.
• Mixed and heavy takes all of those in one load. It's the only type that takes hardwood, so a deck or a fence coming out needs it. In an 8m, it takes no soil, concrete or besser blocks.
• Light construction is light waste from building and renovation jobs: timber, plasterboard, flooring, metal and glass. No tiles, soil, concrete, hardwood or rolls of carpet and underlay.

One bag of rubbish on a clean concrete load makes the whole bin a mixed load. Green waste with rubbish in it isn't green waste any more. If odds and ends are going in, book mixed and heavy from the start.

You don't need a council permit, because our bins only go on your own property, like your driveway or yard.

A bin fits if the driver has clear space around it to set it down, so don't measure to the bin's exact size. The truck needs a gap about 2.4m to 3m wide to get in. It's 2.85m high, and up to 3.75m while it lifts a bin. Overhanging trees cause the most trouble, so trim any low branches before we arrive. Pick a spot clear of power lines too. If you're getting a 6m or an 8m, check the bin's height as well, because they're taller than the rest.

If there's soft ground, a steep slope or a car to move, tell us before the day. Not sure? Call us and describe the spot.

For general or green waste, our weight limits run from 400kg in a 2m to 1,600kg in an 8m. For clean fill, concrete and brick, or mixed and heavy, it's 2,000kg in a 2m up to 4,000kg in a 4m. A 6m takes 6,000kg of clean fill, concrete or mixed and heavy. An 8m takes the same 6,000kg of mixed and heavy. Light construction takes 500kg in a 2m, up to 2,000kg in an 8m.

Nothing can sit above the rim. We may not collect a bin that's overloaded or overweight. Over the weight limit, general waste and light construction cost $27.50 per 100kg and green waste $16.50 per 100kg, GST included.

Asbestos can't go in any of our bins, because we're not licensed to carry it. None of them take these either:

• food waste
• gas bottles or cylinders
• tyres
• paints, oils, chemicals or solvents
• batteries
• medical waste or sharps
• anything flammable or hazardous

If we find food waste in a bin, it's $200 to clean the bin out and dispose of the load properly. The full list is in our terms of service.
